# 36.
"The great thing about getting older is you don't lose all the other ages you've been."
- Madeleine L'Engle
happy birthday to me: the quarantine edition.
even at 36 years-old, birthdays are still so meaningful to me. one thing about having a birthday that’s near the end of the year is you’re in sync with the calendar year, in that you feel as if you’re experiencing a literal new beginning. in the weeks leading up to my birthday (& the new year), i use the time to reflect on the lessons learned from the past year, and i also do some gratitude journaling. being able to experience a birthday shouldn’t be taken lightly. especially with the year we’ve had, it’s a blessing to still be here and to be healthy. i don’t take it for granted, and i never have.
while DC was easing into another city-wide shutdown, i decided that i deserved to celebrate me and my 36th year around the sun.
a little over a month prior to my birthday, i decided to take a leap and make a decision that was rooted in sheer faith. my quarantine birthday was an opportunity to celebrate how far i’ve come and allow myself the space to celebrate where i’m going. i’m legit excited about every good/great thing this next chapter of my life has in store. to the point where sometimes it’s difficult to contain my joy.
if my experiences over the course of 2020 are any indication of what’s in store, i’m going to continue to walk boldly towards my heart’s desires. i vow to choose me and trust that everything is coming together for me by divine right. today and always. in all ways.
